If inclusion is not documented, AI may not see it.
Travelers are increasingly asking AI tools for direct recommendations. For LGBTIQ+ travelers, those questions may include safety, non-discrimination, accessibility and respectful service. Companies that do not publish evidence of inclusive practices risk being invisible in those answers.
From “friendly” to verifiable
Labels such as “LGBT-friendly” are no longer enough. Tourism companies need visible non-discrimination policies, trained staff, complaint channels, privacy safeguards and clear information about accessibility and customer care.
These practices matter not only for reputation but also for discoverability. AI systems interpret what is publicly documented across websites, reviews, maps and directories.
DEI is becoming part of digital infrastructure
Inclusive companies should treat diversity information as operational data: clear, current, consistent and easy to verify. The absence of that information can reproduce exclusion even when internal practices are strong.
What companies should make visible
- Non-discrimination policies that explicitly include sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression.
- Staff training on inclusive customer service.
- Privacy and personal-data safeguards.
- Clear procedures for reporting discrimination or harassment.
- Accessible information in Spanish and English.
The business case
Better inclusion data can reduce traveler uncertainty, strengthen trust, improve employer branding and create differentiation in a crowded tourism market. It also gives AI systems better evidence to distinguish companies that have genuine policies from those relying only on marketing language.
Diane Rodríguez Zambrano, CEO of Cámara Plus de Comercio y Turismo Ecuador, has argued that AI should be approached through both competitiveness and governance. For Pride Connection Ecuador, that means bringing DEI into the conversation about digital transformation instead of treating it as a separate issue.
A practical test for every tourism company
If an LGBTIQ+ traveler asks an AI whether your company is safe and inclusive, what public evidence will it find?
